On February 22nd, NYIT Office of Communications & Marketing sent an email to the NYIT community titled “Coming Wednesday afternoon ….” Attached was a 15 seconds sneak peek video of the launching of the new website (above).

Two days later, an entirely new NYIT homepage was launched. The first change to nyit.edu website in years. Out with the royal blue and black background, and in with a fresh white background with the addition of vibrant photos and icons to navigate through the site. Although the NYIT transformed there online website fellow students have realized that there are a few components that still needs to be worked on.

Farah Faur, a senior studying Health Sciences voiced her opinion about the website and stated, “It’s a little difficult to work and a lot of what we’re looking for we have to search for, which can be a little frustrating.”

Jeni Branch, a graduate student studying Communication Arts was not too pleased with the website and talked about the awkwardness and the layout of the new site. “Personally I’m not a fan of it. It seems very simple to follow but I don’t fancy the font nor the layout and it also seems incomplete. I feel like the website should have been launched when every page is in sync. It’s awkward going from the new website page to the old website page.”

Mr. Ron Goldberg the Web Editor for Communications & Marketing stated that when rethinking the site, they did not want to only focus on the already users which is the NYIT community, but with the renovation of the site it has become difficult for users to navigate to areas that was easy for us to access with the old site such as My NYIT. Catherine Woodburn a freshman majoring to become a Physician Assistance on the Old Westbury campus stated about the new website, “I think it looks really cool and up to date. However I would like it better if ‘My NYIT’ was at the top of the screen like the old one.” Now to access My NYIT, students must click on the ‘Current Students’ tab located at the top of the website, where they will be forwarded to a new page where they can access the directory for faculty and staff as well as My NYIT. Both resources which used to be easily accessible on the old homepage.

Luckily for us users who may have been too comfortable with the old website we do have a chance to give feedback on the new website and voice our opinions of what we think needs to be changed. If you are interested you can visit http://www.nyit.edu/about/website_feedback to voice your opinion.
