Twenty-two year old and former NYIT student Jasmine Joseph, whom has been reported as a missing person since February 24th, has been found dead in her car on Tuesday morning.

Joseph last spoke to her parents a little after 5 pm on February 24th, telling them she was at the college library. According to NYIT though, Joseph has not been a registered student at NYIT since May 2013. After not coming home that night word began to spread of her disappearance, and a large search was conducted in the following days in an attempt to find her.

The car, a gray 2012 Nissan Altima, was found Tuesday morning around 1 a.m. in the Syosset Plaza parking lot near Jericho Turnpike and Cedar Street with Jasmine Joseph confirmed as being the body inside. The parking lot is only less than a mile from her Syosset home. Police noticed the license plate and car matched that of Joseph’s reported vehicle, and News 12 reports the keys were still inside the vehicle along with a dead body. The body was later confirmed to be Jasmine Joseph, but the cause of death is currently under investigation by police with an autopsy to take place within the next coming days. However, Inspector Kenneth Lack believes the death was a suicide. Lack spoke during a press conference on Tuesday saying, “She inhaled a noxious substance.”

The NYIT community is extremely upset to hear of this news, and we send our strength to the Joseph family during this time.
