Can you believe it?! It’s the 22nd season of Dancing with the Stars! Every season, the popular ABC television network features celebrities performing with professional dance partners. However, the season will be a different one as popular dancer Derek Hough, mainstay on the show for years; will not be on the show this season.

On a brighter note, the show still has our all time favorite host, Tom Bergeron of Americas Funniest Home Videos and co-host Erin Andrews. A few big name celebrities competed on the show included Snooki, Chaz Bono, and Victor Ortiz. The contestants for this upcoming season were announced on Good Morning America in the beginning of the month. The show features different music genres with a live band, or orchestra covering popular songs for the contestants to grove to. Did I mention this is broadcasted live every week!? Well it is, and that means the pressure is twice as hard. Celebrities get prepared with spray tans, dazzled up in dresses and suits, and extra glitter for the ballroom!

All of the professional dancers on the show have been dancing from a young age, have plenty of experience and cannot wait to get started with their celebrity partners. Before the season starts, there is a lot of heavy training that is involved. Men and women of all ages never know what’s coming to them, they put blood, sweat, and tears into their work- LITERALLY!

It is interesting to see the cast every season because they all have different backgrounds. Whether they are actors, or musicians, some of them still don’t know how to dance as well as others. Dancing with the Stars is known for casting people that were well known celebrities when they were younger, and bring them back onto the screen. In the past season, they had Alexa Vega who was in Spy Kids dance-battling against her now husband, Carlos Pena, Jr. which kept things more than exciting on the dance floor. This season, child star Jodie Sweetin otherwise known as Stephanie Tanner from Full House (starring in the now spinoff Fuller House) is a part of the cast. Sweetin is partnered up with Keo Motsepe to show off her dance moves and has showed off some of her dance moves on Fuller House, if you haven’t seen it already. Mischa Barton is taking on the ballroom as well; she is a well known actress who came from the New York City scene. Most of her fans know her from The O.C., but now she will be dancing with Russian pro partner Artem Chigvintsev.

Interestingly enough, there have been a handful of athletes that have competed and won Dancing with the Stars including Emmitt Smith, Apolo Anton Ohno, and Kristi Yamaguchi. Antonino Brown is also taking the stage this year with pro dance partner, Sharna Burgess. Impressively, Brown is a part of the NFL Pittsburg Steelers, and is a four time Pro-Bowl selectee and the Steelers MVP in 2011, 2013, and 2015.

The rest of the cast includes, Nyle DiMarco, Kim Fields, Doug Flutie, Maria Maples, Geraldo Rivera, Ginger Zee. After every dance the celebrities are evaluated by three judges, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Toniolo who are also the dancers/choreographers of the show, and Len Goodman. Their scores are out of 10 points, and they judge them based off of every dance move, technique and so on.

Dancing with the Stars is a pleasure to watch, you can see how much progress everyone makes from the beginning to the end. If you would like to learn more about the cast and their pro dancing partners you can visit www.ABC.com. Get those glitter costumes out of your closets for some fun, and catch the first episode on March 21st, R 8pm. Perhaps you’ll want to dance along!
