Recently, NYIT students have decided to join the Greek life as either a brother or sister to a fraternity or sorority. This means parties and events that occur on and off campus. While NYIT works to have one of the safest campuses in the country, things happen and we want students to be prepared.

There are ways to stay safe such as inventions created by other higher education students. A nail polish that changes color when exposed to drugs is just one way to make your extra curricular life here at NYIT safer. “Undercover Colors” is the name of a fantastic nail polish that exposes drugs when in contact by color change. After attending the NYIT Greek Life Hazing Seminar, I learned about the different types of hazing that can occur among peers, family and associates. The importance of not being forced into something comes into play during the seminar and helps students understand how to spot hazing before it happens.  We all know simple rules including make sure your drink is close to you or you are holding it. However, do we really know about not trusting different types of people?

For example, we assume that it would be smarter to take the shorter route home even if by ourselves, but that’s not really the smart thing to do. The buddy system or calling a family member or friend every couple hours can really save a life. Students just like you at events think like this because they may know someone who went through the same exact situation where they’re working to prevent it. Here at NYIT, there are plenty of students that make amazing inventors, paving the way for many more various types of protection.

Another feature that brings the particular focus to mind is emergency ID on smart phones.  It’s important that you put this information into your phone with emergency contact numbers medications and other medical information in case of an emergency. This feature can be founded on the health app of most iPhones and is used by emergency responders when an accident occurs. I hope this information helps in your search for new ways protect yourself and along with all the other inventions modern technology has created I hope that yours glad to the safety and peace of mind of out institution. Here at NYIT, we are many things: thinkers, philosophers, engineers and architects. We’re full of ideas and we’re out there.

So I invite you to attend the next seminar at NYIT for your safety and the peace of mind of your friends and family. Prevention is the best way to ensure peace of mind. Remaining caudal and researching new ways of protection are what this institution is all about.
