Wearing the same Nikes like everyone else? You know, the standard factory design with the typical flush-white laces? Here’s your solution to change up your, “shoe game,” and show some school spirit – introducing U-Lace: creating custom shoes one lace at a time! Now, you might wonder, “What’s so different about these laces compared to standard laces?” Well, these laces do hold your shoes together, but they don’t actually lace! Say what?!

The story of U-Lace is quite unique itself, having spoken to U-Lace CEO Tim Talley himself. Back in 2007, being the successful product developer and global trend-spotter he is, Talley took a trip to Japan and noticed a pair of shoes that caught his eye in a storefront window. Their significance? Shoes with an elaborate design of multi-colored laces – however, the design was created with standard laces, creating a bulk within the actual shoe (picture spaghetti in a shoe). It was Talley’s creative mind that took that concept and simplified it, developing a much cooler and clutter-free alternative: U-Laces.

U-Lace, unlike standard laces, is a single-sturdy polyester lace that is the width of two eyelets (those are the “holes” where your laces go on a shoe, FYI). Talley said that unlike regular laces, if a piece of the stretch-material lace were to get caught on something (such as when skaters skateboard), the U-Lace would be unaffected. Now, besides durability and easy application, why are these laces better than your standard laces you say? Easy. The color options are endless!

Talley had mentioned that there are fifty-color options available, making it possible to customize your, “kicks” to your liking. What does that mean for students at NYIT? Your sneakers can rock blue and yellow laces, making you the talk of the next school event. Talk about school spirit! Besides being available online (at u-lace.com), soon you can find these laces at select Target locations across the US. In addition, U-Lace is also available globally and in many college bookstores as well.

So, what are you waiting for? Throw those ugly pale laces away and pick up a pair of U-Laces today! For more information on the various colors, lacing styles, or to purchase your own pack, visit U-Lace.com for more information, or ‘like’ them on Facebook at facebook.com/ulace for fun tutorials and more!
