The academic year ends with a bang as NYIT announces Dr. Henry C. “Hank” Foley as fourth President in the college’s history. After a seven month search, President Foley takes over for Interim President Rahmat Shoureshi, who served in the role since late January after the departure of 16 year President Edward Guiliano. He will begin his tenure as President on June, 1st 2017.

“I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter of my career, to leading NYIT and building on its success and reputation in higher education,” said President Foley. “I’m thrilled to be at the helm and to work with the board, faculty, staff, students, and alumni to make NYIT even more recognized for its excellent value and outstanding outcomes, both inside and outside the classroom.”

Since November of 2015, President Foley served as the interim chancellor of the University of Missouri-Columbia, overseeing the $2.1 billion enterprise. His background includes top-level experience in strategic planning, economic development and advanced research collaborations, program development, and enhanced funding.

President Foley holds 16 patents, has written more than 150 articles and a textbook. In his impressive career, he has mentored nearly 50 undergraduate and graduate thesis students. In 2015, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science by Providence College. President Foley was also honored as a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Division of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Inventors.

“The board believes that Hank is the ideal choice to guide NYIT into the future,” said Kevin Silva, Chairman of the NYIT Board of Trustees. “His impressive background in strategic planning, economic development and advanced research collaborations, program development, and enhanced funding exemplifies the leadership skills and qualities we sought.”

Mr. Silva continues, “My deep gratitude goes to members of the search committee, including trustee Phil Fasano, for conducting the thorough international search that successfully identified NYIT’s new leader. We also thank Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., for his leadership and service as interim president following the departure of President Guiliano. We have been fortunate to have extraordinary leaders at the helm of NYIT for the past 60 years.”

In his role as interim chancellor, he was responsible for the quality and effectiveness of all programs. He also served as a tenured professor of chemistry at MU and a professor of chemical and biomedical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Before serving as chancellor, he served as UM System’s executive vice president for academic affairs. The role included growing its academic and research expertise.
“I am very proud of my team’s accomplishments at both UM and MU over the last four years, and especially the last 17 months. We’ve accelerated the pace of change at MU and outstanding leaders have joined us in academics, research, athletics, and the health system. MU is a better place today because of the hard work and dedicated service of all these people,” said Foley, on the NYIT website.

As President Foley starts his tenure in June, we thank Interim President Rahmat Shoureshi for his contributions to the college. President Foley looks to lead NYIT in a new age and bring his expertise to the college. The college made a great choice for President and President Foley looks to make an impact when he begins his tenure in June. From the Campus Slate staff, congratulations President Foley.
