On November 19th, the Pocket Campus Slate iOS app re-launch event was simply a success! Over 115 students attended and even the President! A lot of hard work, time and dedication has gone into the preparation of both the event and the app itself. A special thank you to President Guiliano, Pranav Krishnamurthy, and the IEEE army.

The IEEE group has put so much time and positive energy into perfecting the Pocket Campus Slate and each one deserves acknowledgement. Without the efforts of:

Luis Umbarila – Lead iOS Developer
Ravneet Nagpal – iOS Developer, User Experience Designer
Nicholas Passaro – Lead Android Developer
Jason Scott – Android Developer
Khalil Shinn – User Experience Designer
Elieser Duran – Lead Graphics Designer
Loyrale Gaffney – User Experience Designer
Pranav Krishnamurthy – Lead Windows Phone Developer, Project Manager
the Pocket Campus Slate app would not exist.

The most unique part of the iOS (Apple) app is the ability for users to actually read the newspaper on their phone. It takes the digital version of the print issue for the month and it is embedded in the app.

So what’s the difference between the Android, iOS app and the Windows app? The biggest difference between the apps is the way content is displayed. In the Android app, the content is displayed using a Rich Site Summary (RSS) feed. The iOS app displays content by showing the digital version of the printed issue, and the Windows Phone uses embedded text files to show article content.

“I feel that the Pocket Campus Slate Apps are the future because I have been noticing the rise of the smartphone, and tablet impacting every aspect of our lives,” says lead app developer, Pranav Krishnamurthy. “The trend is that many people are using their smart phones and tablets to do everything: shop, read the news, even attend class.”
Regardless of which smart phone you have, there is a Pocket Campus Slate app for you! The Pocket Slate has so much to offer including, the current issue, staff bios, clubs and GLC: stay updated on NYIT’s campus life! Visit the app store and download the Pocket Campus Slate app today!
