Annually, NYIT students of all majors work to create projects associated with their fields and enter them into the Symposium On University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE). This event geared toward creative expression contains a way for NYIT students to find a unique educational experience with like-minded creators and inventors. SOURCE has implemented ways to provide students with unique opportunities to present their research to an audience.  As an event provided to NYIT students, the SOURCE helps students present research they did on creative scholarly works after collaborating with faculty members and mentors.

In the 2015 SOURCE competition, 46 abstracts were accepted for presentation and 128 undergraduate and graduate students co-authored these abstracts. The SOURCE shows a large turnout and magnifies the global campus ideology created by President Guillano. With the most popular NYIT majors being heavily connected to the Arts & Sciences, an annual event like SOURCE fits into the constructs of NYIT.

Students such as Communication Arts Junior, Melanie Benyadi, who entered in the 2014 competition states, “I enjoyed the source and learned a lot from the presentations of other students.” With the SOURCE incorporating so many projects from other colleges, there leaves a lot for students to take in. For an event that focuses so much on creativity and innovation, SOURCE provides students like Melanie the chance to network and “show them my project for some advice.” Students even ear the inspirational advice from keynote speakers such as Ahna R. Skop, Ph.D., D.Sc., an Associate professor of Genetics & Life Science Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who spoke at this year’s SOURCE.

Every participant of the SOURCE wins a $40 gift card to the NYIT bookstore, but the biggest achievement to three students every year is knowing they have winning ideas and can enter again next year for the spirit of competition. April 17 at the Manhattan campus was no exception. The auditorium on Broadway was filled with outstanding projects such as Isabella Portugal, her research project talked about a genetic form of melanoma, and Amanda Kaminaris, a student whose project included heart research.

Professor, Spencer Turkel, and College of Arts and Sciences Dean Roger Yu participated in a panel presentation along with mentors such as Qiangrong Liang, M.D., Ph.D who work to participate in SOURCE and want students to know their involvement in such an event magnifies the lessons and teachings NYIT works tirelessly to present to the ever-growing educational community.

The quality of NYIT academics and integrity can be shown in the projects created by participators of the SOURCE, with 2016 being the Thirteenth Annual SOURCE of NYIT.  Dr. Roger Yu, Chair of the SOURCE Committee is proud to celebrate and award another group of prime inventors, artist, and researchers. Faculty and staff attend every year for the growth of the students and as expected a lot of work goes into an event as detailed as SOURCE because it’s expressed annually not just by students, but also mentors and faculty.

Howdy! This article could not be written any better! Looking at this post reminds me of my previous roommate! He constantly kept preaching about this. I’ll send this information to him. Fairly certain he’s going to have a good read. Thanks for sharing! aeeafdebedabaeeb
