In 1991 Kevin Horton founded the Gold Coast Gazette a weekly publication that has since gone on to receive a number of awards, been designated the official newspaper of the City of Glen Cove, the Village of Sea Cliff and two local school districts. It is considered the number one source, reliable, fair and balanced news for five communities on the North Shore of Long Island with thousands of subscribers.
Through the Gazette Professor Horton has worked with nearly a hundred interns over the years, from local high schools and colleges. These students receive credits through an established internship program. He is a member of the New York Press Association and the Long Island Press Association. Debuting in September 2011, he produced and starred in “Kevin’s Corner TV” a Cablevision show featuring local personalities and stories. The show still enjoys life on its own YouTube Channel. Over the years he has also had the honor of serving with the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce, The Glen Cove Business Improvement District, the Sea Cliff Business Association as well as President of the Glen Cove Rotary Club.
"My return to the NYIT campus as a professor started in the Spring of 2013 at Globesville," said Horton, "NYIT’s web channel featuring live interactive programing. Since then I’ve also been the factuality advisor of the Campus Slate, the student run newspaper and most recently helped introduce the amazing field of Journalism to the next generation through NYIT's Journalism 101 class. My experience in the field of communication has been a great ride and now I love to share that ride with the next generation of journalists to ensure that this amazing field continues to flourish for generations to come."
"After 25 years to-date in the field of Journalism I can say, with strong conviction, it has been an amazing ride," said Kevin C. Horton, Faculty Advisor of the Campus Slate, "I love the field, the challenges, the trials and tribulations and I am excited about where it is headed."
