Walking into class has never been more fun or exciting when you come to Globesville. It is one of the most creative and free-flowing places on NYIT’s campus. NYIT’s very own student run 24 hour web channel is where anyone can tune in to and catch up on a variety of topics ranging from the newest video games to global news created by Professor Don Fizzignola and taught by him and James Fauvell. Here is where you will see the most colorful people come together, throw paint into the air and create small masterpieces each week for the world to enjoy. It also encourages interactivity so if you tweet @Globesville or send in a #GlocalMoment, you can be on anyone of the shows!!
This show is about gaming and technology alike. Seniors Nick Mavros and Tyler Gortakowski have hosted it for the last few semesters. If you don’t know who they are here is a quick run down. Tyler is a jack of some trades and master of all, while Nick is a one-man party with no pause button. Between these two there is never a dull moment (or a day without a Kevin Smith reference) on their show or in Globesville. They inform the masses on new games and gaming technology, while offering their personal insights and knowledge gained from years of experience. This semester they have upped the anti by adding a fair amount of guest hosts, who aren’t hardcore gamers, to the mix giving a fresh perspective on some on the Internet’s most hilarious and entertaining games.
Hannah Smith and Selina Ferragamo are the hosts and these music nerds are two semesters deep in as the talent for Pangea Music. I know what you’re asking: Music is such a big topic, what is this show? Well it is all about finding out the newest news going on in the world of tunes. This year Pangea Music has become more interactive with the use of Spotify. Now not only can you watch them talk your favorite bands and play fun music themed games but you can hear what they are listening to by following their Spoitify playlist and even add some of the music you want them to talk about. You receive news from the latest Hamburger Helper album release to whatever crazy thing Kanye decides to say this week.
This semester Pangea Trending veterans Jeni Banch and Jessica Parkes have put an entirely new spin on the show. Each week a theme is carefully selected from viewer and staff suggestion to base the whole show on while still bringing recent and popular culture news for the audience, some examples of topics are Oscars, spring break and superheroes. Like the other Pangea shows, Trending also includes a significant amount of guest hosts this year to speak about their favorite topics. Fun fact: every person on the Pangea Trending team has hosted the show at least once. Trending covers all topics including social media, viral material, television and other forms of entertainment. It even gives personal recommendations on everything from movies to vacations spots.
Pangea Sports has several NYIT athletes at the helm including Gina Dorso, who is known for her cross-country career and Riwane “London” Araba, a basketball veteran and current Men’s soccer player. This year serious focus has been put on examining NYIT sports teams, especially with guest hosts like Jerrel Green of the men’s basketball team and Shannon Duer, captain of the women’s basketball team. Also new segments have been added to entertain even those who aren’t into sports such as Bonehead of the Week where are hosts give a play-by-play of the biggest professional flops.
According to the Globesville website, Campus News is a news show that incorporates both community campus and world news that resonates with college students. This show has by far made the most strides in the Pangea community. With a new anchorwoman, Erica Brandt, and several field reporters, Gina Dorso, Rachel Udkow, Maylan Studart and Renae Royce; both campus news, life hacks, and world news are given to the viewer in entertaining and professional fashion.
Their mission is to provide an interactive news and entertainment network for the NYIT global community. The student run channel has recently launched a new website and has immensely improved on it. While still covering important NYIT events, such as The Town Hall Symposium, it has focused much more on marketing, the aesthetics of each individual show and becoming more user friendly. Graduate student and host of Pangea Sports Gina Dorso said, “Between website development, public relations, and the on-air talent and behind the scenes production teams, students are gaining experience in every aspect of communications. I have loved being a part of this.”
